Korean firms warned over labor issue

BOGOR: About 20 out of 40 South Korean companies operating in Bogor regency have been placed on a watchlist by the local council for their reportedly poor treatment of workers.

"They (the companies) have committed various violations, such as treating the workers badly and paying their salaries late," a councillor from Commission E for social welfare, Ratu Nailamuna, said on Monday.

This statement was backed by an official from the local manpower agency, Ferlandi Saca Kusuma, who is in charge of industrial relationships and labor control.

Ferlandi said he sent a letter to an attache at the Korean Embassy in Jakarta, Park Hong Kwen, on April 10 to inform him of these concerns.

Among the companies placed on the watchlist are PT Jinin, PT Dae Wong, PT Dae Han Texindo, PT Dasan Dunia, PT Aurora, PT Simone and PT Aigi Samijaya. --JP
