Korean delegates visit Tangerang

TANGERANG (JP): A delegation from South Korea's Boen County Assembly visited the Tangerang Legislative Council on Wednesday to boost ties between the two areas.

During a meeting with Tangerang councillors, the speaker of the Boen Assembly, You Koyung-chok, expressed hope the political uncertainty in Indonesia would not last long.

"We understand the ongoing situation in Indonesia, but it will not scare South Korean businesspeople. This is a circumstance we have ever experienced," he said through an interpreter.

He was responding to the speaker of the Tangerang Council, Dadang Kartasasmita, who called on South Korean businesspeople to continue to invest in Tangerang despite the political turmoil.

The visit by the nine-member South Korean delegation, which was sponsored by PT Dong Djoe, one of the many South Korean investment companies in the regency, was the first by foreign councillors.

Unlike the Tangerang Legislative Council, whose 45 members won their seats through a general election, the Boen County Assembly comprises 11 members who were chosen through a direct election that coincided with presidential and gubernatorial elections. (41)
