KONI prepares bid proposal
JAKARTA (JP): The National Sports Council's (KONI) 2006 Asian Games bid taskforce members met for the first time on Tuesday to arrange the bidding proposal.
KONI's spokesman Ahmed Solihin told reporters after the meeting the team members were scheduled to submit the proposals to President B.J. Habibie by April 30. Habibie is expected to approve KONI's proposal to host the quadrennial event in Jakarta.
"We hope the President can issue a presidential decree to be used as a starting point for the state minister of youth affairs and sports, KONI and Jakarta authorities to work this plan out," he said.
Ahmed also said the taskforce had arranged brochures to be distributed to foreign countries to gain their support. He said the brochures would also be displayed during the Olympic Committee of Asia (OCA) general assembly in Kuwait in November. (ivy)
