JAKARTA (JP): The newly reappointed chairman of the National
Sports Council (KONI), Wismoyo Arismunandar, announced at his
office on Wednesday officials of KONI for the 1999/2003 period.
Wismoyo was elected for a second term in the national congress
here in February. He was assisted in the selection process for
KONI executives by Mangombar Ferdinand Siregar, a sports expert,
and Evert Erens Mangindaan, KONI's North Sulawesi chapter
chairman and also the governor of the province.
The announcement was made one week after schedule.
Most names, about 50 percent, are familiar names and include
retired Army generals, businesspeople and civil servants from the
ministry of education and culture.
Among those retaining their positions are vice chairman Arie
Sudewo, secretary-general Rudolf S. Warouw, treasurer Setya
Novanto, chief of organizational affairs IGM Putera Astaman,
chief of athletes development Moch. Hindarto and chief of
planning and budget Togi Hutagaol.
The newcomers, among others, are KONI chief of foreign affairs
Indra Kartasasmita, who is a younger brother of the Coordinating
Minister for Economy, Finance and Industry Ginandjar Kartasasmita
and a foreign affairs official of the Indonesian Swimming
Association; chief of media and promotion Enny Hardjanto; and
chief of research and development Imam Suyudi, who is a former
assistant to the state minister of youth affairs and sports.
Wismoyo, who retired from his post as Army chief of staff in
1995, said he had deployed his old assistants because all of them
had a mutual understanding among them.
"They know their jobs and can help develop sports programs
that were already on the agenda during their last term of work.
We all can get along well enough," he said after the
announcement.
Enny, a former bank executive, said she was very surprised by
her new position in KONI. Enny was offered the position by
Wismoyo five days before the announcement. She pledged that she
would dedicate herself to building and bringing professionalism
to the sports industry.
"If sports become an industry, many people will turn to sports
for their living and devote themselves to sports achievements,"
she said.
The team also reelected former chief of the Capital Market
Supervisory Agency (Bapepam) I Putu Gede Ary Suta to head the
KONI audit agency for the 1999/2003 period. He will be assisted
by Agustinus Irawan, Jilal Mardhani, Nasroen Yasabari and
