'Kompas' wins SEAG photo award

JAKARTA: Kompas' coverage of the 22nd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games has earned Indonesia's leading daily newspaper a cash award in a photo-journalism competition here on Monday.

Kompas pocketed a cash prize of Rp 18 million (approximately US$2117). The decision was based on the layout and quality of the photos and articles.

The competition, co-sponsored by the Indonesian Photographers Association (PFI), Antara Photography Gallery and Nestle Milo, awarded Hermanus Prihatna of Antara the first prize of Rp 10 million in the individual photograph category followed by Dita Alangkara of the Associated Press and Hariyanto of the Koran Tempo daily.

The panel of judges comprised Seno Gumira Adjidarma, a cultural observer and photographer, Doddy Gurning, a sports photography observer, and Brata Hardjosubroto, head of public relations at PT Nestle Indonesia. --JP
