KL SEAG to spend RM1.5m for promotion

JAKARTA (JP): The 21st Kuala Lumpur Southeast Asian (SEA) Games organizing committee will spend 1.5 million ringgit (US$500,000) for promotional activities and publicity.

Some 200,000 ringgit was spent to launch the SEA Games campaign on Feb. 3 in a ceremony presided over by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi. About 50,000 ringgit was spent when the organizers officially launched the logo and theme song of the biennial event, to be held in Kuala Lumpur from Sept. 8 to Sept. 17, Berita Harian daily reported.

Thirty-two sports offering a total of 386 gold medals will be featured at the event, making it the second largest SEA Games ever held. The 1997 SEA Games in Jakarta, which featured 43 sports, still stands as the largest Games. (yan)
