KL outing for table tennis players
JAKARTA (JP): Eight table tennis players will measure their skills in the Southeast Asia (SEA) Table Tennis Association Championships in Kuala Lumpur from Sept. 6 to Sept. 9.
Chairman of the Indonesian Table Tennis Association (PTMSI) Triyanto Saudin said the organization had selected Fawzia Yulianti, Shanti Febrianti, Ceria Nilasari and Nuni Sugiani for the women's team and Deddy Da Costa, Jelly Da Costa, Budiono and Zaenuddin for the men's team in the regional event.
"We have set a target of one gold medal in the men's doubles event at the SEATA championships. There will be many players groomed for the 2001 SEA Games so we may use this event to measure our skills and learn our rivals' strength," he said on Tuesday.
Triyanto said that Indonesia expected to win the men's doubles and mixed doubles gold medals in the next SEA Games, to be held also in Kuala Lumpur. In the 1999 Games, Indonesia only managed a gold, three silver and three bronze medals.
He said Zaenuddin would also compete in the Safra Millennium Tournament in Singapore from Sept. 1 to Sept. 3, along with Nafriana, Asep Ajidu and David Jacob. Eight Asian countries will field their players in the tournament.(ivy)
