Kiu Sen grabs Ibis Chess title

JAKARTA (JP): Kiu Sen of Jakarta-based Gunadharma University won the Ibis Youth Chess Tournament here on Friday after collecting 3 match points in the final round.

Sugianto of Surya Naga chess club, also in Jakarta, also finished with 3 MPs, but managed only second place on Sonneborn- Berger (SB) points ruling.

One of the tournament's referees, Djamil Djamal of the Indonesian Chess Association (Percasi), said Kiu Sen earned 5 SBs to Sugianto's 4.

Finishing third was Ali Al Rasyid, who scored 2 MPs.

Kiu Sen took the winner's Rp 5 million purse, while Sugianto had to be content with Rp 2.5 million. Ali pocketed Rp 1 million.

The final round was played at Hotel Ibis Slipi, West Jakarta, from Wednesday to Friday. (nvn)
