Kite throws PDI rally in disarray

BANDUNG: Election promises and scathing criticism of the bureaucracy have obviously lost their appeal to many potential voters for the minority Indonesian Democratic Party (PDI).

When senior politician Popo Sonadar Harun spoke at the Padjadjaran sports stadium, all eyes were on youths who began flying a giant kite in the building.

The red kite with a picture of bull's head danced in the air for only a minute or two before dropping because of no wind.

As the kite was sliding down, PDI supporters cheered, clapped and whistled and some even chased it.

All that Popo and businessman Sugeng Sarjadi had to promise was gone with the wind. (ahy/pan)
