JAKARTA (JP): The following deal occurred during the final session of the Open Pairs World Bridge Championships in September 1994 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Jaggy Shivdasani was playing against Santauw Ghose of India, who surely deserves some credit for his card-holding abilities opposite such a daring partner.

Shivdasani led his Spade 2 and, when his partner recovered from the shock of holding the trick with the 7, played Club Ace and a Club for Shivdasani to ruff. Down two was good for 26.5 of 38 Matchpoints.
Some East-West pairs were registering plus 790, but that wasn't available to Shivdasani.

Six Diamond was cold for East-West. Adisorn K. sitting North found a killing lead against 6 Spade: the Heart 8, and Pichai N. had no trouble winning, and after recovering from his surprise trick, returning a Diamond to beat the contract.
