Killer crocodile caught and killed

SAMARINDA, E. Kalimantan: A six-meter-long crocodile (Crocodilus Porosus) which is believed to have killed a villager by the Kayan River a fortnight ago, was caught Saturday.

Residents and Bulungan regency personnel hunted down and killed the crocodile, which had also attacked a seven-year-old boy.

Antara reported yesterday that the police would cut open the blackish crocodile, the stomach of which measured two-and-a-half meters, to look for the remains of 14-year-old Mohtar from Teluk Pengantin village.

"Usually victims' hair and bones can still be found inside a crocodile. We are sure that this crocodile ate Mohtar and attacked one of the hunters, because its teeth are broken," Bulungan police chief Lt. Col. Hidayat said.

The crocodile was speared to death in Manjuaring River, five kilometers from Teluk Pengantin village, after it was lured out of its hiding place with a duck as bait. (aan)
