Key BNI suspect resting at home

JAKARTA: The National Police announced on Friday that the chief suspect in a Rp 1.7 trillion (US$190 million) scandal involving state bank BNI was now resting comfortably at his home in Kotamobagu, North Sulawesi, apparently to recover from an illness.

National Police spokesman Insp Gen. Paiman told journalists that Adrian Waworuntu wrote a letter to the police and told them he would not be available for further questioning until he had recovered. His doctor F. Widerungan recommended that Adrian rest until Sept. 30, but did not go into detail about the nature of his ailment.

"The letter only says that he is ill," said Paiman.

Paiman said Adrian's lawyer guaranteed their client would comply with a police summons for questioning. --JP
