Ketut vows to cut back log of cases

JAKARTA (JP): The newly-installed Deputy Chief Justice of the State Administrative Court, TH Ketut Suraputra, asserted yesterday that one of his man goals in the job was to reduce the mounting backlog of appeals' cases in the Supreme Court.

After his induction ceremony at the Merdeka Palace yesterday, Ketut said his primary aim was to lessen the number of cases pending in the Supreme Court, especially those concerned with administrative law, by seeking to reduce the number of appeals to that court from the State Administrative Court.

According to Ketut there are about 140 appeals cases still waiting to be heard by the Supreme Court. Most of them concern permits and land matters, he said.

Ketut replaced Olden Bidara who is now in retirement. The induction ceremony yesterday was witnessed by President Soeharto, Minister/State Secretary Moerdiono and Chief Justice Soerjono. (mds)
