KEPCO to end talks with union

SEOUL: State-run power monopoly Korea Electric Power Corp. (KEPCO) said on Tuesday it would no longer negotiate with unionized power workers in the ninth day of a strike protesting privatization.

Unionized workers at KEPCO power generation affiliates are the only holdouts in a public sector strike started on Feb. 25 after gas and rail workers returned to work.

"As a strike is expected to continue, we (KEPCO) power firms have decided to hold no more negotiations with the union in an effort to concentrate on keeping power plants operating," said a statement from the chief executives of five KEPCO units hit by the strike. --Reuters
