Kendo masters to put on demo in RI

JAKARTA: Five kendo masters from Japan will visit Indonesia and put on a demonstration at the Jakarta Kendo Club (JKC), Masato Tsuji, a JKC official, announced on Wednesday.

Kendo is the Japanese sport of fencing with bamboo swords. Tsuji identified the five masters as Kiyoharu Kai, Takeshi Kudo, Yoshinobu Azuma, Yoshimi Higashi and Masahiro Koyama.

The five, who are being sent to Indonesia by the All Japan Kendo Federation (AJKF), are expected to arrive on Thursday.

"The demonstrations have been arranged for Saturday and Sunday, during which the masters will give local kendo athletes some instruction and advice, and teach them some kendo techniques," Tsuji, the vice-chairman of the JKC, told The Jakarta Post.

Tsuji said organizers expected about 100 people from Jakarta and Bandung to take part in the demonstrations. (JP)
