Keeping tabs on traffic

TOKYO: For those of you who curse Jakarta's traffic congestion, help is at hand.

Mercedes Benz has unveiled what it calls the Intelligent Traffic Guidance System.

The system, developed in Tokyo, uses live information from the city's police monitoring equipment to help drivers avoid traffic jams.

It provides drivers with weather forecasts, information on parking spaces, train timetables and news bulletins. It is only a matter of time before Mercedes Benz offers similar systems in other Asian cities.
