KDI to take in Bulog stock

JAKARTA (JP): The government plans to hand over 150,000 metric tons of cooking oil currently belonging to the State Logistics Agency (Bulog) to the Indonesian Distribution Cooperatives (KDI) for distribution throughout the country.

Bulog acting chairman Rahardi Ramelan, who is also minister of industry and trade, said: "We will give Bulog's cooking oil stock to KDI as a working capital, which it must repay to the government."

Earlier this month, the government freed Bulog from distributing cooking oil and appointed KDI to take over the role.

The government has changed the cooking oil distribution system several times recently in what has been so far an unsuccessful bid to stabilize the product's prices, which have risen dramatically since last year. (das)
