Kayus Mulia holds 9-9-1999 photo expo
JAKARTA (JP): After months of self-imposed isolation in Bali, Kayus Mulia -- one of the country's few professional black-and- white photographers -- will celebrate the dramatic date of Sept. 9, 1999, with a display of his latest images of the popular resort island.
Titled Under the Poleng Cloth, the Sept. 9 to Sept 19 exhibition of his 40 works at the Cahya photo gallery in Menteng, Central Jakarta, will be opened on Thursday evening.
"For such a unique date, I had to book the space for my exhibition at this gallery about a year ago," Kayus said on Wednesday.
"All the pictures are about Bali's scenery and its people," he added.
Images printed in the catalog for the exhibition include the Gitgit waterfall, a tree on Kuta beach, the coastal scenery of Jembrana, boats at Kusamba beach, and the Galungan festival in Tuban.
The portraits of Bali artists include those with the professions of painter, kitemaker, sculptor, wood carver and the T-shirt Joger designer.
"All of the prints are offered at prices of between Rp 2.5 million and Rp 3 million each," Kayus said. (bsr)
