Kasino, ex-envoy Harjono die
JAKARTA (JP): Noted comedian Kasino Hadiwibowo of the famed
Warkop DKI trio died of a brain tumor Thursday evening at the
Cipto Mangunkusumo hospital here. He was 47 years old.
Kasino was buried yesterday in his family's cemetery in Bogor,
West Java. He is survived by a wife, Amarmini (Meike), and two
daughters, Hana, 21, and Larasati, 10.
Born in the Central Java town of Gombong on Sept. 15, 1950,
the versatile comedian began his career as Prambors radio-host in
1974 before joining the Warkop group a year later.
The group, which also comprised Indrojoyo Kusumonegoro
(Indro), Wahjoe Sardono (Dono) and Nanu, quickly shot to fame for
its cutting jokes which were featured on radio talk shows.
Nanu died in the early 1980s.
A graduate of University of Indonesia's School of Social and
Political Sciences, Kasino starred in 12 slapstick comedy films
with Dono and Indro, winning a place in the hearts of Indonesians
as their three best-loved comedians.
The group's comedy series is shown on private TV Indosiar.
Also on Thursday, Rear Adm. (ret) Harjono Nimpuno, 76, former
Indonesian ambassador to Austria and Spain, died at his residence
here.
He was buried yesterday in the Kalibata National Heroes
Cemetery, several hours before the burial of Coordinating
Minister for Political Affairs and Security Soesilo Soedarman.
Haryono, born in Madiun, East Java, on Nov. 29, 1921, is
survived by a wife and four children.
He started his career in the Navy. Upon his retirement, he was
posted at the Ministry of Transportation as Director General of
Sea Transportation between 1970 and 1978.
He was then appointed Indonesian Ambassador to Austria, a
position he held from 1979 to 1983.
On his return to the country, he became Inspector General at
the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1983 to 1986. From 1986 to
1989, he was the ambassador to Spain.
Haryono was awarded many military honors such as the Bintang
Gerilya (Guerrilla Star), the Independence-War Stars I and II,
the Trikora Star, Dwikora Star, Jalasena Stars II and III, and
Kartika Eka Paksi Star III. (02/09/aan/amd)
