Karol Kucera, a Slovenian?

A photo caption entitled Greeting the hero, page 10, The
Jakarta Post, April 6, 1999, mentioned Karol Kucera as a member
of the Slovenian Davis Cup team.

Karol Kucera is from the Republic of Slovakia, once a part of
Czeckoslovakia. Is it right that a man from Slovakia is called
Slovenian? Or should he be called Slovakian? As we know, Slovenia
was once a part of Yugoslavia, with Ljubljana as its capital.

Maybe I'm wrong but I need explanation from the editor. Thank
you.
