Kanindotex has another problem

SEMARANG: Kanindotex, the giant textile business group widely rumored to be facing financial difficulty, faces a problem on a different front -- its factories are now the subject of an official investigation for allegations of pollution.

The Central Java legislative assembly is monitoring Kanindotex plants in Harjosari and Merakrejo after residents near the plants complained of waste being dumped into the river.

The local government has already ordered the factories to stop operating their printing machines because they failed to control their waste.

The company will only be allowed to operate the plants again after it fixes their waste treatment facilities. (har/emb)
