Kancil car ready for sale

BANDUNG, West Java (JP): Automobile manufacturer PT Kurnia Abadi Niaga Citra Indah Lestari (KANCIL) said it would commercially launch its Kancil car in July this year.

KANCIL vice president Achdiat A. Suhadi said on Wednesday the company would market 250 units in the first year, at prices between Rp 35 million (US$3,684) and Rp 37 million.

The company is targeting the middle of the market in Java, and intends to sell the cars on credit, with installment payments of between Rp 30,000 ($3.16) and Rp 40,000 a month, he said.

He also said offices of the Organization of Land Transportation Owners in several cities in Java, as well as bajaj (three-wheeled motorized vehicle) organizations, had already ordered a number of the cars.

"We planned this 400 cc car for commercial city transportation with a radius of 10 kilometers," Achdiat said, adding that the car's operational cost was Rp 1,200 per kilometer.

The car's gas tank has a capacity of 20 liters, and it gets between 15 kilometers and 18 kilometers per liter, he said, adding that its maximum speed was 60 kilometers per hour.

Achdiat said the company invested Rp 12 billion to produce the car. (25/tnt)
