Kalimantan's bridge pair won
JAKARTA (JP): Indonesian bridge virtuosos Jusuf and Henry from Pontianak, West Kalimantan came unchallenged with a score of 1,755 in the Indonesian leg of the Ninth Epson Worldwide Bridge Tournament for 1994, the world's biggest bridge tournament to date.
The one-day event was held simultaneously in five continents and participated in by 100,000 bridge players from 90 countries. All results were sent via computer to the central committee in Paris which will later decide the final standings.
In Indonesia, the contest was held in seven cities: Jakarta, Manado (North Sulawesi), Pati (Central Java), Bukitinggi (West Sumatra), Surabaya (East Java), Pontianak and Mataram (West Nusa Tenggara).
The second place of the Indonesian leg of the tournament went to Imam and Lutfi from Pati who scored 1,754. They were trailed by Jakartans Joto and Nimara in third place. The super information highway-based tournament ended last week. (hdj)
