The Jakarta Post, Jakarta

The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), the country's most influential business group, presented President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Wednesday with a road map to develop industry and investment in the country.

The document, titled Revitalizing Industry and Investment, consists of a strategy, concepts and recommendations on how to improve the competitiveness of local industries and to boost investment over the next five years.

Kadin's road map focuses on five main issues, which the business community asked the government immediately to address. These issues are law enforcement, taxation, labor, infrastructure and regional autonomy.

The road map was prepared by Kadin members, the National Economy Recovery Committee, 30 business associations and six foreign trade chambers in Jakarta.

A team of experts also was involved in the process, including economist Mari Elka Pangestu, the new minister of trade.

The road map is expected to serve as a valuable source of information for the new government as it forms its economic programs and five-year development agenda, according to a press release.

Meeting with President Susilo on Wednesday afternoon were Kadin chairman Mohamad S. Hidayat, vice chairman for industry Rachmat Gobel, vice chairman for investment Chris Kanter, vice chairman for organizational affairs Adi Putra Tahir, vice chairman for international cooperation John Prasetio, National Economic Recovery Committee chairman Sofyan Wanandi and an agricultural expert from the Bogor Institute of Agriculture, Bayu Krisnamurthi.
