Kadin opens trade disputes office

JAKARTA: The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Trade (Kadin) has opened a special office to support local businessmen deal with international trade disputes.

Chairman Aburizal Bakrie said the office -- the Kadin Permanent Trade Representative (KPTR) -- was important for local businesses, which were often accused by the international community of violating international standards -- especially those on dumping.

Ministry of Trade and Industry data showed last year it handled 28 cases revolving around international trade disputes.

The ministry managed to block 11 of them.

Aburizal said the KPTR, staffed by well-known professionals, would form a close relationship with legal experts who specialized in global trade laws, especially those set out by the World Trade Organization (WTO). -- JP
