Justice for Sutiyoso?
The public question of whether Governor Sutiyoso would comply with a court summons in the Ancolgate case has been answered. He has obeyed the summons issued by the Jakarta High Prosecutor's Office.
It is reasonable to assume that Sutiyoso's inclusion in this corruption case is intended to prevent him from being reelected as the Jakarta governor for another term, especially with the issuance of the summons only six days after he conveyed his 2001 budget accountability report to the Regional Legislative Council (DPRD).
That assumption has also aroused speculation about who will win the gubernatorial election in September 2002.
His name has also been linked with an assault by members of the Betawi Brotherhood Forum (FBR) on members of the Urban Poor Consortium (UPC). Some suspect that the incident was engineered to corner Sutiyoso, but others believe that it was due to a lack of control by FBR's field leaders.
Now the public is waiting for the final result of investigation into the Ancolgate case, which involves members of commission D of the Jakarta Council, high-ranking officials of the Jakarta Administration, directors of Taman Impian Jaya Ancol (Jaya Ancol Dream Land) and senior officials of Pelindo (state- owned port management institution) who made a dubious trip to Japan, Hong Kong, South Africa and Australia at the end of 2000.
