Justice banned from seminar
SURABAYA: Deputy Chief Justice Adi Andojo Soetjipto failed to show up to address a seminar at the Airlangga University here yesterday because he was not permitted to attend.
"Pak (Mr.) Adi only sent us a letter of apology for not being allowed to go by his superior, Chief Justice Soerjono, but he sent his paper to us," Dini Nurfirahmi, chair of the seminar's organizing committee told The Jakarta Post.
In his letter, according to Dini, Adi said he did not understand why Soerjono did not permit him to address the seminar, even though the topic of discussion had nothing to do with alleged corruption in the Supreme Court.
The university's students had asked Adi to be a panelist at the seminar a month ago.
Adi was scheduled to appear as a panelist along with Yusril Ihza Mahendra, a law lecturer at the University of Indonesia and J.E. Sahetapy at a session entitled The State and Society in the Midst of a Credibility Crisis.
The seminar's organizing committee, students of Airlangga University, decided not to find another panelist due to time constraints. (15/14)
