Jumping into SEA Games
JAKARTA (JP): Officials of the Indonesian Aero Sports Federation are planning to stage a parachuting exhibition event at the 19th SEA Games here in October.
"We really look forward to staging parachuting at the games and I assume it can be done since Indonesia is hosting the event," Satria Tubagus, the federation's chairman, said during the 15th anniversary celebrations of the organization over the weekend.
Satria said that Indonesia was still a leader of aero sports, especially parachuting, in Southeast Asia.
But he admitted that aero sports were very expensive and unaffordable for most people.
Indonesia, which has international experience in parachuting and gliding events, plans to take part in the Aero Sports Olympics in Turkey in September.
The federation has hosted several international events, including the World Parachuting Championship in Senayan, Jakarta, in 1991 and the Sixth Skydiving World Canopy Formation Championship in Lido, Bogor, West Java, in 1996.
Indonesia regularly competes in the ASEAN Parachuting Championships, which it won last year in Kuala Lumpur. (yan)
