Jump woman suffers hallucinations

JAKARTA (JP): The 38-year-old woman who jumped from the third floor of Cipto Mangunkusumo General hospital on Saturday suffers from hallucinations, her husband said yesterday.

The woman, Sri Darwati, who was severely injured, was in a stable condition yesterday. She is being treated in the hospital's intensive care unit.

Her husband, Supar, 48, said she had told him that she was going to jump into a swimming pool just before she flung herself from the window and landed on a concrete roof terrace.

"She had earlier said that her doctor, when writing with a pen, appeared to be threatening her with a knife," he added.

Supar, a street vendor in Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, said his wife first attempted to jump out of the 3rd floor window at 4 a.m. on Saturday morning. Her sister, Mugi Rahayu, foiled that attempt.

"Mugi told nurses to keep an eye on her," he said. "Now she is under tight supervision. Her hands are tied to the bed."

Sri succeeded in jumping out of the window later on Saturday morning, six hours after giving birth to her fourth child. She suffered severe injuries to her neck and legs.

Nurses said that she might have been under stress after a difficult labor.

Supar said he had yet to decide whether he would sue the hospital for neglect. (ivy)
