July 27 incident

Great concern seized us while watching and reading the news
reports of July 28 and 29, just after the clash between members
of the Indonesian Democratic Party and security personnel. The
concern must have affected all of this country's citizens since
the clashes involved members of our own nation, families and
relatives. There was nothing to be proud of and no heroes
emerged. The incident was another sad note in the darker pages of
our history.

Who will implement our cherished principle of deliberation
towards consensus? The struggle to sustain what is right often
demands sacrifices, but is violence the only remaining
alternative?

May God Almighty bestow upon us the wisdom to choose whatever
is good for our country, our nation and our society.
