JAKARTA (AP): Indonesian shares hit a new record high, breaking an important 2,000 level Thursday, boosted by gains across Asian markets following Wall Street's rally overnight.
The Jakarta Stock Exchange Composite index closed 29.362 points or 1.5 percent up to 2,016.033 in a trade where gainers trounced losers 138 to 49 with 52 stocks unchanged.
Heavyweight Telkom gained 2.9 percent on hopes for strong first-quarters earnings which is be announced next week, while nickel miner Aneka Tambang climbed 6.4 percent, also on hopes of strong earnings due to higher commodity prices.
Traders said foreign funds dominated buying amid hopes of slower inflation in April which could inspire the central bank to cut its key interest rate early next month. (**)
