Lampung to build
geothermal plant
BANDARLAMPUNG, Lampung: The Lampung provincial government will
soon build a geothermal power plant in Tanggamus, a project that
had been hanging in limbo for two years, an official says.
The construction will materialize after Japan pledged to
provide a Rp 1.5 trillion (US$167 million) loan to the provincial
government, provincial development head Harris Hasyim said.
The amount was part of a Japanese loan commitment to Indonesia
amounting to US$1.07 billion. The loan would be used to finance
10 infrastructure projects, including the plant. -- JP

Ulema meet to discuss
rebuilding of Aceh
BANDA ACEH, Aceh: At least 120 ulema throughout the stricken
province of Aceh held a meeting on Monday to discuss
reconstruction and rehabilitation programs in the province after
Dec. 26 tsunami.
After the meeting, ulema Tengku Muslim Ibrahim said the post-
tsunami work should occur in line with Aceh's distinct cultures.
When the government rebuilt a house, it should not stand with
its back facing to the kiblat (direction of Mecca), for example,
he said. -- JP
