Institute hosts forestry students meeting

BOGOR: At least 50 delegates from six countries have arrived in Bogor to attend a forum on global forestry education.

Delegates from the Asia-Europe Forestry Exchange Program will meet on Thursday at the Bogor Institute of Agriculture (IPB) campus in Dermaga to attend the Global Forestry Education forum.

This is the forum's fifth annual meeting but it is the first time it has been hosted by Indonesia. The other participants are from Finland, Sweden, Germany, Singapore, and China, along with delegates from two international organizations involved in forestry.

At the meeting, leaders of the exchange program will discuss sending Indonesian forestry studies lecturers and students to Asian and European countries.

"By sending students and lecturers abroad, we can increase the quality of forestry studies in Indonesia," said Cecep Kusmana, the dean of the institute's forestry school.

Indonesia's representative to the program, Yusuf Sudo Hadi, said the IPB was hosting two exchange students from Swedia Agriculture University, in Sweden and one from Munich University in Germany.

IPB has also sent a student to Munich University.--JP
