POLITICAL PROXIMITY: First gentleman Taufik Kiemas (left) gives a
drink of water to a child during a dangdut show in Sleman,
Yogyakarta, while Yogyakarta Governor Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X
looks on. The dangdut show was organized on Sunday to commemorate
the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI Perjuangan)'s
30th anniversary. That the sultan, a possible Golkar presidential
candidate in next year's elections, attended the celebration
seemed to indicate the closeness of the two parties.
