Sept. 12, 1984: Sriyanto, then an Army captain, led the operation
section of the 0502 North Jakarta district military command. At
about midnight he led his soldiers to Jl. Yos Sudarso where they
met more than 100 protesters, many of whom were armed. As
protesters rushed the troops, the 13 soldiers opened fire,
killing at least 32 people and injuring 54 others.

Oct. 23, 2003: Sriyanto, who was now an Army Maj.
General and commander of the Army's Special Forces (Kopassus),
was brought to court and charged with gross human rights
violations.

July 8, 2004: Prosecutors demanded a 10-year jail term for
Sriyanto because of his involvement in the bloody incident.
