Key regulations on gun ownership 1. Emergency Law No. 12/1951:

(1) Any person who illegally possesses a firearm faces the death penalty.

2. Law No.2/2002 on National Police:

Clause 15

(2.e.) The police have the right to issue and control gun licensing.

Selected criteria for gun ownership, National Police Chief Decree No. 82/2004 on obtaining and control of guns:

o Applicant must be 24 to 65 years of age. o Applicant must undergo health and psychological tests. o Applicant must take a special training course to acquire a certificate on shooting skills. o Applicant must renew the license every year. o Applicant must get a recommendation from the provincial police chief, and that must be renewed every five years. o Licenses can only be issued to people from certain professions, such as government officials (at least the head of an office at the central level), regents, legislators, company directors or lawyers.
