The foundation has a month supply of imported medicine left for its 850 kids under treatment before it will need to buy more,but that has proved difficult since Chavez suspended dollar sales since Jan. 22 to stop a drastic devaluation of the Venezuelan bolivar. Thousands of businesses and thousands more citizens are struggling in this import-dependent nation which just emerged from a two-month strike against Chavez that devastated the economy.

Filipinos take part in a mass aerobis session at a park in Manila in a bid to set up a new world record. Organizers said the mass aerobics on Jan. 16 surpassed the existing entry in the Guiness Book of World Record by at least 62,000 people. The Philippine Health department spearheaded the exercise as part of a national healthy lifestyle campaign.
