Miss Universe 50th Anniversary Pageant

JAKARTA (JP): The island of Puerto Rico will host the Miss
Universe 50th Anniversary Pageant featuring more than 79 young
and talented women from around the globe in the competition for
the Miss Universe 2001 title.

Supermodels Elle Macpherson and Naomi Campbell co-hosted Miss
Universe 2001, broadcasted from Ruben Rodriguez Coliseum in
Bayamon, Puerto Rico on Friday, may 11 (between 9 p.m. and 11
p.m., live and delayed) on CBS Television Network. Indonesian TV
viewers will be able to watch the final competition of Miss
Universe through private station Indosiar tonight (Sunday, May
13) at 10 p.m.

As co-hosts, Campbell and Macpherson offered interesting and
color commentary for the 50th anniversary of this year's Miss
Universe competition, while providing viewers with a backstage
look at one of the most glamorous events on the network
television.

Joining Campbell and Macpherson is a panel of celebrity judges
that includes writer and actress Veronica Webb, Polo model Tyson
Beckford, The New York Post's Page Six columnist Richard Johnson,
spokesperson and former Miss Universe (l993) Dayanara Torres
Muniz, Supermodel Mini Anden, Kel Gleason and fashion designer
Marc Bouwer.

Highlights of Miss Universe 2001 will spotlights the passion
and the beauty of Latin culture. The opening of the event will
include a choreographed carnival featuring delegates dressed in
their traditional dresses reflecting the essence of their
homelands.

The carnival will be followed by re-vamped runaway competition
featuring contestants dressed in fashionable outfits and a
swimsuit competition that utilizes the spectacular beaches of
Puerto Rico as a backdrop. The entertainment special will also
follow preliminary events in various exotic locations on the
island, ranging from tropical rainforest to the underwater depths
of the Atlantic Ocean.
