Joestiono to face Military Tribunal

JAKARTA (JP): Former Jakarta Military Police chief Col. Joestiono will soon appear before Military Court on charges of negligence for allowing Second Corp. Ibrahim Hasan, who at that time was a suspect in the Jakarta Stock Exchange bombing, to escape custody, Jakarta Military commander Maj. Gen. Bibit Waluyo said.

"The investigation of Col. Joestiono, along with four other Military Police officers, has almost been completed. We will soon hand over the dossiers to the Military Tribunal," Bibit said on Thursday.

He was speaking on the sidelines of the inauguration ceremony of new Jakarta Military Police chief Col. Subagdja Djiwapradja. Joestiono was absent from the ceremony.

Joestiono was dismissed from his post in July, just after Ibrahim, a member of the Army Strategic Reserves Command (Kostrad), escaped from his Military Police guards.

Last month, Aceh Police rearrested Ibrahim in Aceh, where he had allegedly joined the Free Aceh Movement (GAM).

Bibit said that Ibrahim would soon be moved to Cipinang.

Ibrahim was found guilty of the JSX bombing and sentenced to life in prison. (tso)
