Jobs in South Korea
From Kompas
In November 1995, I enlisted for work overseas. I registered for a job in South Korea, at the representative office of PT Pandu Abdi Pertiwi in Bandung. In December I took a week-long training course in Trapus, Bandung.
After having arranged the immigration documents such as passport, I and other candidates were requested to wait at home until the "calling visas" from the government of South Korea were completed. Now, nine months have passed but we still have no visas.
Tired of waiting, I contacted the company in Bandung and in Jakarta several times. No results! The company could not give information about my date of departure as it was all connected to the "calling visas" that have to be issued by the South Korea government.
It should be noted that most of us had to sell land or livestock or secure a loan in the hope of being sent abroad to work. Why should they make things difficult for us, needy people?
