Jl. Simatupang is now a hazard to motorists

JAKARTA (JP): The South Jakarta mayoralty administration called on motorists passing the T.B. Simatupang outer ring road to be extra careful, due to some traffic changes in line with the construction of a tollway parallel to the artery road.

Mayoralty spokesman M. Yanis told The Jakarta Post over the weekend that, due to the construction of the tollway over the median strip of the road which connects Pondok Pinang and Cikunir, the mayoralty can only install temporary traffic signs.

"The situation has been worsened by the fact that public transportation crew have unlawfully removed traffic signs in order to cut their route," he said.

Yanis said that to avoid excessive spending the mayoralty had only installed temporary traffic signs.

Currently, the traffic regulations alongside the outer ring road keep changing, especially at the Pasar Minggu crossing where people come from Pasar Rebo, East Jakarta to Pondok Pinang, South Jakarta, and this has caused inconveniences for motorists.

The construction of the tollway includes the development of six overpasses and one underpass.

The tollway is being constructed by PT Marga Nurindo Bhakti, a company owned by Mrs. Siti Hardijanti Rukmana, President Soeharto's eldest daughter.(03)
