JIS has never barred police

I write concerning an article in your April 29 issue. The article referred to an incident during a Jakarta Youth Basketball Association game at Jakarta International School (JIS) on April 17.

Contrary to suggestions in the article, JIS has never barred police officers from entering school premises. The school has, in fact, received police visitors on four separate occasions since the incident. In each case, we welcomed the officers courteously and provided every possible assistance.

It is JIS policy and practice to cooperate to the best of the school's ability with the Indonesian authorities as they carry out their duties.

NIALL CW NELSON, Headmaster, Jakarta International School

Note: Thank you for your clarification. As stated in the article, it was the City Police Spokesman who insisted that his officers were barred from entering school premises.
