Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chairman of the Commission for Accelerating Reform of the Indonesian National Police (Polri), Jimly Asshiddiqie, has revealed that President Prabowo Subianto has directed that reforms should not be limited to Polri but should also encompass other law enforcement institutions up to the judicial power.

Jimly explained that a comprehensive evaluation is needed for the law enforcement institutions that have been operating during the reform period for more than two decades.

“So, the President also gave directions that what needs to be reformed is not just the police, especially since we have had 25 to 27 years of reform, the law enforcement institutions in particular also require evaluation, up to the judicial power which also needs reform,” said Jimly at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Tuesday.

According to him, the improvements intended are not limited to aspects of welfare enhancement such as salary increases, but rather integrated and comprehensive reforms.

He stated that the reform steps would begin with the Polri institution before being expanded to other institutions.

“Not just salary increases, but also comprehensively, integrated, but we start with the police first. I think that’s it,” he said.

On that occasion, Jimly also conveyed the points that formed the report and recommendations of the Commission for Accelerating Polri Reform to President Prabowo, including limiting Polri positions outside the institution, the mechanism for appointing the National Police Chief which still requires DPR approval.

Then, strengthening the National Police Commission (Kompolnas), not recommending the establishment of a Ministry of Security to oversee Polri, as well as revising the Polri Law.

“We propose revising the law on Polri which will then be followed up with government regulations, presidential regulations up to presidential instructions that instruct the National Police Chief and all ranks to implement the agreed recommendations,” said Jimly.

It is known that President Prabowo received the final report and recommendations from the Commission for Accelerating Polri Reform, handed over by Jimly at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, on Tuesday.

The President received several books, including one titled “Bridge of Aspirations for Polri Reform” as well as “Follow-up on Recommendations”, as monitored in the upload by the Presidential Secretariat.

The handover was also attended by members of the Commission for Accelerating Polri Reform, including Ahmad Dofiri, Yusril Ihza Mahendra, Otto Hasibuan, Supratman Andi Agtas, and Mahfud MD. Also present were State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
