Jewelry design competition
JAKARTA (JP): The World Gold Council (WGC) Indonesia is holding the first Indonesian gold jewelry design competition for designers, factories and retailers until the end of July.
The manager of WGC Indonesia Leo Hadi Loe told reporters here yesterday that gold jewelry production in Indonesia reached 90 tons last year, of which 80 tons were sold locally and 10 tons were exported to Asia, Europe and America.
"This could be increased through beautiful and creative design," Leo said.
Johny Salmon, chairman of the Jakarta based the Association of Gold Jewelry Producers, explained that gold jewelry exports reached US$100 million last year, up from $70 million in 1992.
The judges for the competition that pick heart as its theme, include Harry Darsono, a designer, G. Joyce Spiro Haccou owner of jewellery boutique, Johny Salmon, Leo Hadi Loe, Yongkie Lestiadi, Clara Clarence Arifin. (yns)
