Jewel thrown from horse

NEW YORK: Pop singer Jewel was injured when she was thrown from a horse at the Texas ranch of her boyfriend, rodeo star Ty Murray, the copresident of her record label said.

Jewel, 27, broke her collarbone, her first rib and suffered bumps and bruises on Wednesday, Ron Shapiro, copresident of Atlantic Records, told The Associated Press. She had been vacationing at her boyfriend's ranch, 145 kilometers southwest of Dallas.

Jewel, who will be wearing a collar and sling for at least a month, will have to cancel a promotional tour for her latest album, This Way, he said.

A European tour that was to have started on May 10 in Italy is in doubt, but she should be able to go on with her U.S. tour, which is due to begin on June 14 in Tampa, Florida, Shapiro said.

The singer, whose full name is Jewel Kilcher, is an experienced horse rider, he said.
