Jazz singer's home hit by burglars

TANGERANG: Burglars broke into the home of jazz singer Saira Syaharani Ibrahim in Bintaro Jaya, Tangerang, late on Wednesday, and made off with a total of Rp 100 million (US$11,765)-worth of musical recording equipment.

When the burglary took place, Syaharani was performing at the Balai Kartini on Jl. Gatot Subroto, South Jakarta, in an event to mark Kartini Day.

She reported the robbery to the police on Thursday morning.

"My brother called me at 9 p.m. and told me that burglars had broken into my house and stolen musical and other equipment. They left the door open when they left," she said.

The burglars took two computers, a recording mixer, a fax machine, a microphone, guitars and Rp 500,000 in cash belonging to Syaharani's maid.

"I bought all these things one by one over a long period to fulfill my dream of having my own recording studio at home. But now its all gone," she said.

According to Syaharani, her neighbors saw a minivan pass by her house a number of times before parking in front of the house at about 8:30 p.m.
