Jazz-gamelan concert on stage

JAKARTA (JP): A rare music performance blending Jazz and
Javanese gamelan will be staged at the Wayang Orang Bharata art
center in Senen, Central Jakarta on Wednesday at 8 p.m.

Organized by the French Cultural Center and the Wayang Orang
Bharata organization, the concert features Indonesian
contemporary artist Sapto Rahardjo and French musician Mique
Montanaro performing music from their joint album Java.

Born in Yogyakarta 42 years ago, Sapto is well-known for his
experimental music works. He is a master of Javanese karawitan
and is nationally and internationally known. Recently, Sapto
performed at the Banlieues Blues Music Festival in Paris to
promote his album Borobudur Suite, a collaboration with French
musician Andre Jaume.

Sapto's companion Mique Montanaro is a renowned French jazz
musician. He composes traditional, classic and modern jazz. (raw)
