JAPFA leads chess league

JAKARTA (JP): JAPFA chess team leads group A of Indonesia Chess League 2000 at Novotel Hotel, Surabaya, after winning 3.5- 0.5 against the Bali team in the fourth round and 4-0 against the South Sulawesi team in the fifth round on Monday. JAPFA earned four Match Points (MP) and 15 VP.

Next is BTPN team of Bandung with four MP and 12,5 VP in the second place and Gunadarma team of Jakarta with three MP and 11 VP in the third place of the league which offers Rp 20 million (US$2,500), according to tournament spokesman Kristianus Liem on Monday.

In group B, BNI '46 still is in control at the top standing following a 2-2 tie with Bali Jeff team and Jayakarta Muda team. BNI '46 has four MP and 13,5 VP. It will face South Kalimantan on Tuesday.

Bali Jeff team threatened to take over the top position because it still has two remaining games against East Java men's team and Enerpac chess school team. Bali Jeff is group B's runner up and has collected three MP and 10,5 VP. (ivy)
