Japan's coop urged

JAKARTA (JP): Governor Surjadi Soedirdja is urging the Japanese government to increase its cooperation with Indonesia, especially in building various facilities in Jakarta.

The governor said on Wednesday that Jakarta is preparing to face the free trade era by building various facilities such as new roads, a subway and the coastal land reclamation project.

"The facilities are to support Jakarta as a service city which has a bright future as an economic center in Asia-Pacific," Surjadi said when receiving the chairman of Indonesia-Japan Inter Parliament Cooperation Board, Taku Yamasaki.

Surjadi said that cooperation between two countries will increase in the future.

Surjadi explained that there are at least 32 projects in Jakarta financed by Overseas Economic Cooperative Fund and the World Bank such as a water treatment and distribution project and a waste treatment center. (yns)
