Japanese woman killed at home

JAKARTA (JP): A 73-year-old Japanese woman was stabbed to death in her residence at the PLN housing complex in Duren Tiga, South Jakarta, police sources said on Saturday.

Mitsue Ivonne Culas-Tado, a widow who lived with her only daughter Noriko, was found in her garage on Friday with several wounds which police said was caused by a kitchen knife.

The victim was taken to Tria Dipa Hospital in the nearby Pasar Minggu area. However, she died and her body was later admitted to the morgue of Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital in Central Jakarta.

A neighbor, Hendarmin Dwikaryanto, said he heard cries for help from the residence about 7 p.m. and approached the house with members of his family.

He found Culas-Tado on the floor and heard noises from the rear room. He saw a man heading to the back of the house, Hendarmin said.

The man ran some 500 meters from the house, after which he was caught by locals and beaten until police arrived at the scene.

Hendarmin said the man had been seen earlier a number of times at the residence with his wife. Police have questioned the man, identified as Nickson, 28, a resident of Setia Budi district, South Jakarta, but have yet to find a motive. (07)
